Keith Powell (pictured with his black lab, Coal) is a life-long resident of the Kootenays.  He is the publisher of Koocanusa Publications Inc., in Cranbrook.  He has a keen interest in local history and the lives of the many colourful characters who at one time or another called the Kootenays home.

He is the publisher of Kootenay Business magazine.  He published his first historical novel, LIVING IN THE SHADOW OF FISHER PEAK through his company called Wild Horse Creek Press in 2009.

He has just released, in 2012, his second historical novel, entitled Raising Kain, the adventurous life of Conrad Kain -- Canada's greatness mountaineer.
