Author and publisher: Keith G. Powell
Keith Powell (pictured with his black lab, Coal) is a life-long resident of the Kootenays. He is the former publisher at Koocanusa Publications Inc., in Cranbrook. He has a keen interest in local history and the lives of the many colourful characters who at one time or another called the Kootenays home. He retried as publisher of Kootenay Business magazine in September 2019.
He published his first historical novel, LIVING IN THE SHADOW OF FISHER PEAK through his company called Wild Horse Creek Press in 2009. $21.95
He released his second book, in 2012. His second historical novel, is titled RAISING KAIN, the adventurous life of Conrad Kain -- Canada's greatness mountaineer. $19.95
His third book was published in 2014. FISHER PEAK CHRONICLES -- short stories from a tall mountain. This book traces the history and legacy of Mt Fisher and the many who have climbed the mountain over the years. $24.95
In 2019, he published his fourth book, a historical novel called IN THE SHADOW OF ELEPHANTS, the life of Jimmie Peever, one-armed goalie and baseball player and a herd of unruly elephants. $21.95
In 2019, he also re-published the book -- FORT STEELE -- Gold Rush to Boom Town by Naomi Miller. This book traces the history of Fort Steele's early days and its importance to the Kootenay region. $21.95
